The Fairfak County Police Directorate, which is located in the American state of Virginia, responded to the caller who reported to Alligator at the beginning of Monday morning.
The reptile was located outside the motel only 20 minutes south of Washington DC.
Police told the BBC that they found that the owner was transporting an alligator from New York in North Carolina Zoo when he escaped.
Due to the Virginia Code, which prohibits possession of certain non-generic, exotic animals, alligator and its owner was spent outside the county, officials said.
