Iran carries out wave of arrests and executions in wake of Israel conflict

The Iranian authorities conducted a wave of arrests and multiple execution of people who are suspected of links to the Israeli intelligence agency, in the right of the recent war between the two countries.

It comes after officials describe as an unprecedented infiltration of Iranian security services of Israeli agencies.

Authorities doubt the information in which Israel played a role in a series of high -tress during the conflict. This included the target kills of older commanders from the elite Islamic revolutionary guard Corps (IRGC) and nuclear scientists, who Iran attributes by the Operational Intelligence Agency of Israel working within the country.

He shook the scale and precision of these killings, authorities targeted that everyone suspects working with foreign intelligence, saying it was for national security.

But many fear, this is also a way to silence disagreements and tighten control over the population.

During the 12 day conflict of the Iranian authorities, three people accused of spying for Israel executed. Wednesday – only one day after the ceasefire – three more individuals were executed in similar charges.

Officials have since announced the arrest of hundreds of suspects across the country to the accusations of espionage. State television broadcasted alleged confessions of several detainees, allegedly acknowledging cooperation with Israeli intelligence.

Groups and human rights activists expressed fears due to the latest achievements, inviting a long-term practice of extracting forced recognitions and implementation of unjust trials. There are concerns that it can follow more executions.

The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence Notices claims that he is engaged in the “merciless fight” against what is called Western and Israeli intelligence networks – including CIA, Mossad and MI6.

According to the Fars of the News Agency, which is associated with the IRGC, from the beginning of the Israel’s attack, “the Israeli spy network became very active in the country.” Fars reported “more than 700 individuals related to this network during 12 days of Iranian intelligence and security.

Iranians told BBC Persiana that they received warned text messages from the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence Materials to inform their phone numbers on the social media pages regarding Israel. They are instructed to leave these pages or face criminal prosecution.

The Iranian government also intensified pressure on journalists working for media sales of Persian language abroad, including BBC Persian and London Iran International and Manoto TV.

According to Iran International, the IRGC detained Mother, Father and Brother since his TV representative to submit it to resign over the coverage of the canal and Iranian-Israel. The presenter received a phone call from his father – who asked him to security agents – inviting it to stop and warned further consequences.

After the conflict began, the threats aimed at the BBC Parsite journalists and their families became more difficult. According to the recently affected journalists, Iranian security officers who addressed their families claim that, in a war context, are justified in targeting family members as hostages. They also marked journalists as “Mohareb” – a term that means “the war against God” to accuse them, under Iran law, can bear the death penalty.

Manoto TV reported similar incidents, including threats to families of employees and requirements to cut all connections with an outlet. Some relatives allegedly threatened accusations such as “hostility against God” and espionage – and capital crimes under Iranian law.

Analysts believe that these tactics are as part of a broader strategy to impair and intimidate the expulsion of media workers.

Safety forces also detained tens of activists, writers and artists, in many cases without formal charges. There are also arrests of arrests who targeted family members killed over the period from 2022. years, life, freedoms “against government protests.

These actions suggest a broader campaign whose goal is not only on current activists, but also approximately at previous waves of disagreement.

During the war, the Iranian government seriously limited access to the Internet, and even after the end of the fire, the full approach has not yet been renewed. Limiting Internet access during the crisis, especially during the protest of the nation against the government, became a common form Iran. In addition, most social networks such as Instagram, Telegram, X and Youtube, as well as news, such as BBC Persian, have long been blocked in Iran and cannot be accessed without using a virtual private network service (VPN).

Proponents and political human rights observers found parallels from the 1980s, when Iranian authorities brutally suppressed the political opposition during the war Iran Iraq.

Many fear that, after the weakened international international, the Iranian authorities can be turned inwards again, resorting to mass arrests, executions and severe repression.

Critics indicate events from 1988. year, when, according to groups for human rights, thousands of political prisoners, many already performed sentences – the following submission, secret trials have been performed. Most of the victims are buried in unmarked mass graves.
