From A Henderson: In the golden age of British boxing during the late 1980s and early 1990s, no rivalry captured the imagination of fans more than ferrostic weddings between Chris Eubanka Heart and Nigel Benna. It was a conflict that was not only fists, but personalities, ideology and combat styles – a volatile cocktail that created two of the strictest nights in British sports history.
Contrasts in character
Nigel Benn, the nickname is “Dark Destroyer”, was a personal aggression. A former soldier in the British army, Benn brought inexorable strength, whirling tempo and the mentality of the street in the ring. His style was visceral and punishment, often huge opponents with pure ferrocity.
Chris Eubank Sr., On the other hand, was the embodiment of calculated trust. Known for its theatrical manies, aristocratic tone and laser-sharp defense, EUBANK was showman – elusive, puzzling and frustrating hard. He was arrogant to many. Another, tactical genius.
They could not be more different, which made its rivalry increasingly convincing.
First Fight – 18. November 1990. years
Their first settlement came to NEC in Birmingham. Benn was the rule of the VBI medium-sized champion, and Eubank was undefeated. Accumulation was electrically, dripping with true hostility. They refused to shake hands. The insults flew. It was more than a fight – it was personal.
